Playtime Snacks

A post in our latest news section.

We have noticed an increased number of unhealthy snacks being eaten at playtime, including crisps, chocolate bars and cake bars.

Some of these snacks are seen because children are choosing these from their lunchbox instead of a healthier choice at playtime.

We would like to clarify that, if children in KS2 wish to have a snack at playtime, it needs to be a healthy snack.

Examples of these include:

Cereal bars or rice cakes
Fruit or vegetable
A small portion of cheese
Bread sticks
Dried fruit, such as raisins – but not processed fruit, such as a winder

No chocolate, crisps or sweets should be consumed at playtimes.

We feel this list gives children lots of options while being mindful of nutritional value and fat and sugar content. Children in Reception and KS1 will continue to be offered fruit through our free fruit for schools scheme.
