Year 2’s Wild Adventure at Northumberland College Zoo!

A post in our latest news section.

Our Year 2 pupils had a fantastic day exploring the wonders of Northumberland College Zoo, located just outside Hexham. The zoo is home to an incredible variety of animals, and our children were thrilled to encounter everything from playful meerkats and curious coatis to the striking ring-tailed and ruffed lemurs.

The excitement didn’t stop there—pupils also spotted Asian leopard cats, kookaburras, wallabies, and even hornbills among the many exotic and avian species. The walk through the aviaries and enclosures gave everyone a chance to see alpacas, goats, dik-diks, bush dogs and a wide range of beautiful birds up close.

Throughout the day, the children were full of questions and wonder, learning about animal habitats, behaviours, and conservation efforts. It was a brilliant mix of education and adventure, and the smiles on their faces said it all!

A huge thank you to the zoo staff for helping make this trip so memorable. Year 2 returned to school buzzing with excitement and plenty of animal facts to share!
